This class is designed for students who want to learn how to operate a digital SLR and use the photos on the printed page. Learning and understanding composition and exposure, or how to “Control” the camera are mandatory for this class. Students will also learn to create graphic designs with photography. The class is designed as a prerequisite to yearbook, newspaper and school publications. Photos taken in this class have the possibility of being used in the Spotlight, Junglebook or on the Journalism website. There will be a lot of work outside of class for some assignments-for example Action/Sports photography. THIS IS AN ADVANCED CLASS—YOU ARE EXPECTED TO DO HIGH QUALITY WORK.
ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE GIVEN “THREE DAYS GRACE” BEFORE BEING COUNTED LATE—after that you WILL RECEIVE HALF CREDIT.
EACH CLASS PRESENTATION IS WORTH 20 points. IF YOU ARE NOT READY TO PRESENT ON THE DEADLINE DATE you may present the day after. After that the presentation points are not available—unless of course you are legitimately absent. You will then receive the allowed amount of time to make everything up—two days for every day missed (excused absences of course.)
Class outline (Timeline is tentative due to the nature of the class.)
Talk about what the class is about—look at photographs.
