Greater Andover Days 2017 Commences

As summer concludes, fall activities including football games, halloween festivities, and, in Andover, GADs. Greater Andover Days, otherwise known as GAD, has hosted 5000 people annually since 1967 to “unify the citizens of Andover through a shared festival experience.” It takes place the fourth weekend after labor day, which this year falls from September 28 through October 1.
During the festival, several events hosted are KidFest, a hot dog eating contest, parade, fishing clinic, car show, business expo, craft fair, carnival, firework show, and many more. GAD buttons can be purchased before the festival at local retailers to access these events.
As GAD commences on Thursday, St. Vincent de Paul will host a festival from 8:00 a.m- 4p.m. The same evening in Andover Central Park, the Andover school concert will perform from 5:00-8:00 p.m. During the concert at 7:00, a flag retirement ceremony will be held southwest of the gazebo. The Ottaway Amusement carnival rides, a main attraction, will be up and running from 6:00-10:00 p.m. Wristbands for the carnival are available for $25.
On Friday, Westar Energy will host a tailgate from 5:30-10:30 in the parking lots of the Andover Public Library and City Hall. The tailgate costs $10 for  parking spot, and includes free face painting, balloon art, and caricature artist. At the Andover Senior Center, family bingo will be held. The carnival will continue from 6:00-10:00 p.m.
On Saturday, from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., St. Vincent de Paul will host a fall festival, which includes a Junk in the Trunk sale, a bake sale, and Cafe in the Ville. At 10:00 a.m., the GAD parade will march down Andover Road, traveling from Cottonwood Elementary to Sunflower Elementary. Saturday’s festivities continue back-to-back, including but not limited to: a pet show, watermelon eating contest, turtle race, Andover Star Dance performance, and concert. The day is concluded with a fireworks show at 8:30, sponsored by Andover State Bank. The carnival will run from 11:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, and will be open from 12:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday.
