A common known event, career day offers freshmen, sophomores, and juniors a look into future plans. Professionals who work a multitude of jobs come the school and spend a portion of the day talking to students about the jobs.

“It is hard to plan a future when you really don’t know the specifics of a career. Reading about a career isn’t the same as talking to someone in person and being able to ask questions,” counselor Lisa Stinson said.

Instead of the basic career options, the counselors were creative with whom they asked to come speak; the goal is to have the right for career for every person to visit.

“We surveyed students several years ago and have added or taken off careers as students have expressed an interest or disinterest,” Stinson said.

The students choose three careers that intrigue them and spend the afternoon flitting back and forth between speakers.
“I’m very excited for career day because I’m hoping there will be lots of helpful information offered,” freshman Aubrey Mckenna said. “I think it’s a great idea because I know personally that I don’t have a set career in mind so hopefully it’ll jump-start my future college plans.”

When thinking about future plans, not everyone knows how to begin the search. With the career fair people find out more information because they are in a closed, safe environment.

“We hope students gain an understanding of the in’s and out’s of careers,” Stinson said. “We encourage our presenters to discuss all aspects of a career–what is this job truly going to be like?”

Central will be providing career insight October 11th, 2017.
