Kobach wins Kansas governor primary election

The gubernatorial election for the next governor and congressman of Kansas will occur on November 7, 2018. Kris Kobach and Ron Estes won the primary election.
Kris Kobach: Kobach has been the Kansas Secretary of State since 2011. He was also the Chairman of the Kansas Republican Party from 2007-2009. He obtained his Bachelor’s, law, and master’s degree from Harvard, Yale, and Oxford, respectively. One of Kobach’s main promises has been to keep undocumented immigrants from receiving welfare services. He also has required voters to show proof of citizenship to register to vote. Kobach gained a national reputation for advising President Trump on immigration and voting issues.
Ron Estes: Estes has served as a U.S. representative for Kansas’s 4th congressional district since April 2017. Previous to this, he served as the 39th Kansas State Treasurer. He earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Tennessee Tech University in Civil Engineering and Business Administration. Estes names himself “proudly pro-life” and supports de-funding planned parenthood. Estes seeks a repeal of the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare. He also voted in favor of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, stating it will create job and economic growth.
