A Year Abroad

This year Andover Central welcomed four foreign exchange students. They arrived from the Czech Republic, Netherlands, Spain, and Germany. Last year due to COVID 19 the school was not able to have foreign exchange students. They were all very excited when finding out that they received host families.

“I am looking forward to all of the football games and all of the fun activities that are

connected to school,” senior Tine Vandevoorde said.

Many of them participated in school activities and sports.

“I am from Germany and I would like to play golf while I am here. This is my first time in America but I want to visit New York City, the Grand Canyon, Florida, and California,” senior Lara Halling said.

A lot of the bigger cities appealed to these students as great places to visit.

“Here you have huge cars compared to the Czeckh Republic. I also want to go to New York, Miami and the East coast,” senior Jiri Cimicky said.

The normalcy in the U.S. is very different from many of their countries.

“Everything here is different from Spain because everyone drives everywhere here. I was very happy when I found out that I was coming to Kansas,” senior Lidia Burillo said.

Overall, these students shared the excitement of coming to Kansas. They all have major cities that they want to visit and look forward to being a part of the Andover Central family.
