School Food: Yay or Nay

Nutrition is a big part of our everyday life, so it's important to know about the basics to keep our minds and bodies healthy. Nutrition is the process of providing or obtaining the food necessary for health and growth. MyPlate is a reminder to eat healthy and have a good nutritious meal everyday, if it’s for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

There are 5 food categories to have what we call a healthy meal. According to MyPlate, these food categories include: proteins, fruits, vegetables, grain and dairy. To have a healthy breakfast, lunch, or dinner, we should consume food from each of these categories.

According to our Health teacher, Ms. Stevens, the most important meal of the day would be “subjective”, that people should be able to know what they should eat according to their bodies, but breakfast should be important to get your body energized and ready for the day in the morning. Ms. Stevens said she thought our school cafeteria followed the MyPlate guidelines. That they follow the standards, enough to keep us energized and full.

The cafeteria food at ACHS could be better. It isn’t bad per se but it could definitely use some improvement. The lunch ladies don't put enough effort as they should into our meals. Though they don't have a lot of time or money to prepare the food; but the school in general could put more effort into such an important part school. The kids also could put more effort into how they eat. Especially the athletes, they need a good energized body for practice and games to be their best.
