The cross country team competed at three events during September and built on their excellent 2016 season.
Their first competition was at the JK Gold Classic where juniors Devin Gerber, Alexandra Schumann, and Cailan Steward finished seventh, eighth, and ninth respectively.

“I feel like I got off to a solid start individually, and we got off to a really great start as a team,” junior Alexandra Schumann said.

As a team the girls finished second of nine, while the boys took home fifth place of the nine teams.

“I think that the guys need to improve as a team, we have a lot of good individuals, we just all need to get better so we can finish higher,” senior Tanner Goertzen said.

They followed with a trip to Emporia for the Emporia Invitational, where the boys bounced back to finish eighth of 17 and the girls continued their solid season with a fifth place finish.

The team also competed well at the Rim Rock Farm Classic in Lawrence, Kansas finishing eighth of 45 in boys and 27 of 38 in girls.
The team will be in action throughout October in preparation for state races.
