With a six wrestlers ranked within their weight classes, it is no surprise that the Jags hold the number two ranking in 4A as a team. The team’s talent was on display last Saturday when the Jags dominated at the Douglass tournament, capturing first place overall. The team needed the win, after a couple of tough team losses.

“I think we really needed this because we were struggling to have guys make weight, and we just weren’t winning every match we should have,” senior Griffin Baker said.

The solid team performance was highlighted by four winners in their weight class, Griffin Baker, Gunnar Gentzler, Jake Patch, and Josh Patch, seniors. Baker cruised to first place in the 106-pound weight class, highlighted by an acrobatic escape in the semifinal match.

“I was really feeling it, so when I saw an opportunity to kind of show off, I took it,” Baker said.

The Patch twins also found success, with Josh winning the 120-pound bracket and Jake winning the 126-pound bracket. The final winner for the Jags was Gunnar Gentzler, who ran away with the 132-pound bracket. It was business as usual for the four of them, as they look to lead the team to more success in the future.

“I think our ceiling is state-champs, were pretty good from top to bottom, so I’m very confident about the team,” Gentzler said.

The Jags’ next action is a duel at home against Andover, as they’ll look to take down the school’s biggest rival.
