The Jags came into the second half of the season with momentum and motivation following a 4-2 start, leading them to winning six of their seven games in January. Three of those wins came in the Ralph Miller Tournament in Chanute, as the Jags captured the tournament championship, defeating Olathe North 60-55 in the final.

“It felt good to come out hot, and winning those games really showed us at our best, and we showed that winning in Chanute,” sophomore guard Xavier Bell said.

The boys carried their winning ways into February, again only dropping one game in the month. The month was highlighted by solid wins at Maize South and Derby. Both wins highlighted Bell, who has lead the team in scoring since winter break, achieving a season-high 26 points against Derby. His improvement has helped the Jags progress since the break, as they avenged a loss from earlier in the season against rival Andover, winning in a blowout 59-37.

“It felt great to beat Andover because losing to them earlier is something that just should not have happened, that gave us a lot of confidence, then beating Derby just built us up even more, so we’re very confident heading into sub-state,” junior forward Easton Leedom said.

The boys return to action on March 2nd in a sub-state matchup against Rose Hill, a sub-state title would see the Jags reach their fourth straight appearance at the state playoffs.
