The AC girls swim team is wrapping up another successful season, heading to State on May 18th and 19th. The team, led by 3rd year coach Mitchell Wagner, is mostly underclassmen with 2 juniors and 4 seniors.

“It’s so much fun being a senior on the team this year because we really get to help Mitchell develop the younger girls. Me and a couple of the other girls have been swimming since freshman year so it’s really great to be able to finish as seniors with them,” senior Natalie Dreiling said.

The team qualified for the 200 individual medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay for the State competition. Claire Kreuger, freshman, qualified for State in the 500 freestyle and the 200 freestyle. Kreuger’s best 200 free time is a 2:09.42, and her best 500 free time is 5:59.30.

“Since we were able to qualify for State in relays and other races earlier in the season this year it’s released a lot of stress on the team which is really nice because we don’t really have to worry as much about qualifying later on,” junior Alexandra Schumann said.

Besides qualifying for State, Kreuger won the 200 free race at the Independent invite, the Andover invite, and the El Dorado invite.
Senior Holly Shortt won the 50 free at the El Dorado invite with a time of 27.77 and she also got third in the 200 free at the Andover invite. Freshman Ellie Brewer got third in the 500 at the El Dorado invite.
