The cross country team wrapped up a successful season on November 2 when Brett Schoenhofer, junior, competed at state. After a successful individual season, Schoenhofer finished in 13th place!
At the end of the regional competition, three runners were recognized with league honors. Kinnedy Robertson finished in 14th place, which earned her second team all league honors. Connor Seibel also earned second team all league with his 11th place finish.
“It was sad to see the season end, but I am satisfied that I ended strongly.” Robertson said. “We had a great season together and they are all amazing!”
Schoenhofer was the only member of the team who qualified for the State meet at Rim Rock farm in Lawrence, KS. His 4th place finish at regionals not only qualified him, but also earned him 1st team all league honors.
“It was nice to see all my hard work i’ve put in over the years pay off,” Schoenhofer said.
In the week leading up to the race, being the only runner competing, Schoenhofer trained hard individually with the help of his coaches. It’s safe to say that training paid off when he ran a 5k in 16 minutes and 42 seconds, and medaled in 13th place at the State meet.
“Going in, I was hoping to finish in the top twenty,” Schoenhofer said. “After the first mile, I used a lot of mental toughness to get through the rest and pass about 7 people at the end.”
