Wrestlers hope for improvement after first match

The wrestling team’s home opener didn’t go as well as hoped. This was the first wrestling meet at home of the new season. It was a Varsity and JV meet vs. Augusta.
Scotty Scrivner, junior wished for better results, but sees some things he can still work on.
“I saw some improvements in my match and there is still some things I can get better at. We made some mistakes and didn’t get the results we wanted, but we saw some things we have to work on,” he said.
There are still ways to improve said Tagehn Stanley, junior.
“The meet was good. We wish we could have had better results but that’s just more for us to work on,” Stanley said.
There are still things to work on is what Tate Forcella, senior, believed.
“I feel really good about the meet. It was the first time I’ve ever placed at a varsity meet and we had people in the top three and I think there is a lot to be excited for as the season goes along,” Forcella said.
Murphy Ownbey, senior, who won his match, said there was a lot of hard work that led up to this.
“The whole team has been working really hard for this first match. We have a long way to go before regionals, but there is promise. I feel like the reason my match went well was because of the mindset I had going into it. I went in with the idea that I would perform to the best of my abilities and just did that,” he said.
Riley Frank, freshman, Darron Rodd, junior, Ownbey, and Kade Malcolm, freshman all won their matches. Despite the efforts of the team, Augusta won the meet 54-21.
