Valentines can be an intimidating holiday, full of expectations and pressure to find the perfect valentine and have the perfect date. Many fantasize about fancy candlelit dinners, and lavish evenings out on the town, but that fantasy is very unattainable for the common high school student.
“I really enjoy valentine’s day. I like the idea of a holiday all about love, but I’ve never had a great or memorable time, mostly because anything fun costs a ton of money, and I diffidently don’t have that,” senior Allison Uhlenop said.
Luckily, in the Andover, and surrounding, areas, there are several great opportunities to have a dream date, on a budget. A great opportunity to spend time with a love interest, while pinching pennies, is to explore the coffee shop scene in Wichita. Wichita has a great selection of brews, including Reverie, Espresso to Go Go, Ecclesia, Twisted Java, and R Coffeehouse. Grab a coffee beverage of choice and enjoy a quiet, intimate date for just a few dollars.
“I love a good coffee date. It’s low pressure and a good chance just to talk and get to know someone. I wouldn’t mind doing that for valentines especially because it’s on a Thursday,” sophomore Jo Little said.
Not everyone has a taste for coffee, but there are still plenty of opportunities to find a date on the cheap. If wanting to get active, during the week Wichita Ice Center offers discount skating. For less than ten dollars a person, skating can be a fun and romantic date.
“I’ve gone skating on a few dates, I like that it’s something active, but you can still talk,” junior Anna Flynn said.
