Super Bowl LX: An Opinion Piece

The Super Bowl has finally concluded… I’m glad it’s over because it was not the Super Bowl I wanted. I was hoping for excitement and crazy game-changing plays, but instead, we got to see the second-year New England Patriot Drake Maye have the underperformance of a lifetime. He had this loss coming because the Patriots had one of the easiest schedules in the NFL and an even easier Playoff schedule. They played a weak Chargers offense that couldn’t get the ball down the field in the first round. They played CJ Stroud and the Texans in the second round, which I thought would be a good game because both teams have a really good offense and defense. The game was very boring, and nothing exciting happened. Stroud had four interceptions in the first half and was without his deep-threat wide receiver, Nico Collins. After taking down the Texans, New England played the Denver Broncos. I thought this was going to be a shootout, but it turned out to be one of the most boring AFC Championship games ever. Bo Nix fractured his right ankle in the previous game, so the Broncos were forced to play their backup quarterback, Jarrett Stidham. The game started bright and sunny, but turned into a blizzard at Empower Field at Mile High Stadium. The Patriots took down the Broncos 10-7 and moved on to the Super Bowl. On the NFC side, it was an absolute bloodbath. The Seattle Seahawks were the one seed, so they had a first-round bye. Their first game was against the San Francisco 49ers, and this game was over before it started. On the opening kickoff, Rashid Shaheed ran it back for a touchdown. The Seahawks went on to put up 41 points while the 49ers only put up 6. The NFC championship game is considered to be one of the best games of this year's playoffs. It was between the Seattle Seahawks and the Los Angeles Rams. I really enjoyed this game because earlier this season these two teams faced off, and it was a nail-biter that ended with a Seattle victory in overtime on a 2-point conversion. This game was no different. It was exciting the whole way. It was an offensive battle with both teams being led by their star wide receivers. The Seahawks pulled out the win 31-27 and were headed to the Super Bowl. This year's Super Bowl hype was through the roof. Could Sam Darnold be the first QB of his 2018 draft class to win a Super Bowl? Or could the second year Drake Maye get his first Super Bowl victory? The win fell toward the Seahawks with a 29-13 win. There wasn’t a whole lot going on in this game because of turnovers and punts. The game got more exciting in the fourth quarter and was the best part of the game by far. Overall, it was a good NFL season but a disappointing Super Bowl.
